Jury Duty

Yes, I've been gone for a while, but for good reason. Last week I was downtown for jury duty during the day, and in the office at night. If working at my firm is like having two jobs, going to jury duty on top of it is like working three. But now I've got lots of stories from Chinatown to share with you.

Trial lawyers and jurors are lucky in that the Manhattan courthouses border Chinatown on its western edge. Manhattan's Chinese quarter teems with cheap, satisfying eats, particularly Cantonese food. Radiating out from the intersection of Mott and Pell streets is a maze of gastronomic delights, which I'll be sharing with you over the next few days. It's good to be back.

Good to have you back! Have been hopefully checking your site for a week & finding... nothing... until today!

There was an item in the news here in London today about lawyers being disqualified from jury duty as they "know too much about how the law works". Quite a disturbing statement - to someone from a country with no jury system it kind of confirms yuor worst fears about juries!! Given where you have been this week, this apparently is not the case in the US?

Look forward to the Chinatown tales!

It's great to have you back. It was wonderful to log on and find a new entry!

Great blog you have here. Nice to see those familiar places. I lived in NYC on West 34th St. from 1987 to 1996. Loved going to Chinatown for dim sum every Sunday for brunch! Back then it was quite inexpensive...

By the way, noticed Munchies Paradise (Aji Ichiban) in one of the photos. Have you gone into that shop? They have all sorts of wonderful preserved seeds. =)

It's nice to know that there are people who know good food when they eat it. My family owns May May Bakery and am happy to hear that you enjoy the roast pork buns! You should try the sticky rice wrapped in bamboo leaves when you get the chance.
